GP CPA P.C.
Career at GP CPA
Do you enjoy puzzles, mysteries, and seeing the trees in the forest? Is figuring something out something you prefer? Do you like to work with and test new software? If the answer to these questions is an enthusiastic “Yes!”, then our CPA firm has a career opening for you.
We need an accountant who can demonstrate they are self-directed and can focus on the future of accounting, not the past.
ROLE
Accountant
Who we are?
Second, we generally don’t have (or require) overtime during tax deadline season and offer generous paid vacation time. Third, we offer benefits after 90 days, including 401K and 100% firm-paid medical insurance that is comparable to larger firms. Fourth, our accountants are well-rounded business advisors who tackle a wide variety of business issues, not [just!] tax nerds or keyboard cowboys. Finally, our firm recognizes the value our employees provide on a regular basis and we require multiple performance reviews during the year, not just annually.
Compensation, benefits and schedule
Our staff accountant role begins with a salary of $55,000 annually, with 401K and firm-paid medical benefits offered after 90 days. We will schedule a performance review after 90 & 180 days with the goal to increase compensation based on performance.
The role typically requires an average of 35 hours per week, from May-August, and only three days a week are designated as in-office days. We encourage our staff to be individuals and our culture is very welcoming and supportive; we are a team-oriented firm. During the fall and winter, our schedule averages 40 hours per week and we adjust our in-office schedule depending on deadlines and work volume. With that being said, our firm takes ski season seriously.
What an accountant at GP CPA actually does.
The staff accountant role will focus on three core areas, payroll, accounting, and tax planning. The accountant will start working on small business payroll using Gusto, which will comprise approximately 25% of their week.
After payroll has been mastered, the role will spend less than 10% of their time on payroll. For accounting, our clients use QBO and Xero, and you will spend the majority of your time on these platforms to accomplish all aspects of the client’s financial reporting. Financial reporting includes bookkeeping and analyzing financial statements. Financial reporting is tax-oriented and will encompass approximately 60% of your weekly assignments.
Taxes: no longer a “chore for adults.” For all things tax related, you will combine your payroll and accounting knowledge with taxes to assist with tax planning. After six months, the role will focus more on tax planning and preparation as the deadline season approaches.
After the first deadline season, we expect the staff accountant to begin professional networking and developing a niche or specialty area that they are interested in.
The CPA Exam
Interested in being an accountant at GP CPA? The next steps are…
Our interview process will require you to complete a timed accounting/payroll/tax knowledge questionnaire before we schedule an interview. After completing the questionnaire, we will contact you directly to schedule an interview. We are expecting to hire before the end of May.
